The future of computers (part 2)

In order to continue to take our computing habits into the "cloud", I needed to find online replacements for all the things we currently do on the computer. This post is just going to be a quick list of what we are using.

Standard Programs (you probably already know about)
Email: Gmail and Yahoo Mail
Documents/Spreadsheets: Google Docs
Financials: Mint.com

Less Known Programs
Syncing files between computers: Dropbox
Syncing bookmarks between computers: Xmarks or Chrome bookmark sync (in beta)
Online Todo list: ToodleDo
Diagrams (like Visio): Creately

  1. Funnily enough, I also like a feature of Gmail that takes it 'off the cloud.' It's now possible to work with Gmail offline: once you set it up, it loads the previous 6 months of email on your computer, then you can write emails (just like you used to with Outlook) while you're away from the Internet, and then it sends it all when you are back online again.
